Cards (17)

  • Cell membrane
Forms a boundary, selectively permeable, controlling what enters and leaves
  • Animal, Plant, Bacterial cells

    • Cell membrane present
    • Cell membrane not present
  • Cell
    • Site of chemical reactions
    • Control centre of the cell
    • Contains genetic information in the form of chromosomes, surrounded by a nuclear membrane
  • Nucleus
    • Boundary of nucleus, Controls what enters and leaves the nucleus
  • Mitochondria
    • Sites of cell respiration
  • Cell wall
    • Made of cellulose, provides support, contains cell sap and provides support
  • Vacuole
    • Contains cell sap and provides support
  • Chloroplasts
    • Contain chlorophyll; the site where photosynthesis takes place
  • Plasmids
    • Small circular rings of DNA
  • Structures present in all 3 types of cells
    • Cell membrane
    • Cytoplasm
  • Making a slide of a Plant Cell
    1. Peel a small section of onion tissue and place on the centre of a microscope slide
    2. Add water using a drop pipette to the onion tissue
    3. Gently lower a coverslip onto the onion tissue
    4. Set the slide onto the stage of the microscope and examine using low power first and then high power
  • Making a slide of Animal Cells
    1. Gently scrape the inside of your cheek onto the centre of a microscope slide
    2. Carefully lower a coverslip on top
    3. Observe using a light microscope, first at lower power and then higher power
  • Cell
Basic building block of living organisms
  • Tissue
Groups of cells with similar structures and functions
  • Organ
Groups of different tissues working together to form a structure with a particular function
  • Organ System
Different organ systems make up the organism
  • Organism
    Order of increasing complexity
