Little Rock Nine

• Started in 1957, but integration was only really achieved in 1970s.
• Nine black students attempting to study at Central High School, Little Rock after the Brown vs Topeka ruling.
• White community, state troopers and the Governor objected, so abused and stopped them from entering.
• President Eisenhower got involved and ordered federal troops to protect the children. The children went to their classes. The soliders stayed for a year.
• Governor shut all high schools in Little Rock down in protest. Took the case to the Supreme Court, who ruled they must desegregate.
