    Emotional tests:
    • Responses recorded with a motion picture camera
    • To test Alberts responses - confronted with a white rat, dog, monkey, masks with + without hair, cotton wool, burning newspapers etc
    • Then tested with a loud sound - made by striking a hammer upon a steel bar
    • Bar = 1m in length + 2cm diameter

    • S1 - Establishing a conditioned emotional response
    • S2 - Testing the conditioned emotional response
    • S3 -Generalisation
    • S4 - Changing the environment
    • S5 - The effect of time
  • S1 - Establishing a conditioned emotional response
    • 11 months + 3 days
    • Brought him to the lab
    • White rat was presented + Albert tried to reach for it
    • The bar was struck behind his head at the same time
  • S2 - Testing the conditioned emotional response
    • 11 months + 10 days
    • A week later he was shown the rat with no sound to see if his previous experience effected his behaviour
    • Albert was also exposed 5 times to the joint stimulation
  • S3 - Generalisation
    • 11 months + 15 days
    • Albert returned for further testing
    • The research Q was whether the link would be generalised to other objects
    • He was presented with rat, wooden blocks, a rabbit, dog, seal fur coat, cotton wool + Watson's hair
  • S4 - Changing the environment
    • 11 months + 20 days
    • Alberts conditioned emotional response was freshened up using 'joint stimulation'
    • He was taken to a new environment (large, well-lit lecture room with 4 people present)
    • He was placed on a table in the centre of the room
  • S5 - The effect of time
    • 12 months + 21 days
    • Albert was tested one last time
    • No emotional tests had been conducted
    • The final test involved a Santa Claus mask, a fur coat, rat, rabbit, dog + the blocks
