  • Shiatsu Massage
    A Japanese form of bodywork where the word "shiatsu" means "finger pressure" and is sometimes described as a "finger pressure massage"
  • Shiatsu
    • Based on the holistic system of traditional Chinese medicine where imbalances in the flow of energy cause illnesses
    • The primary method is "TOUCH" rather than techniques
    • Focuses on pressure points along the different channels of the body
    • The flow of energy is called the Qi (pronounced as "chee") that flows through energetic pathways called meridians
    • Includes massages with fingers, thumbs, feet, and palms, assisted stretching, and joint manipulation and mobilization
  • Kneeling on one knee

    The therapist is kneeling on one knee while the other knee is bent to a certain angle, suited for applying pressure to the back, hips, thighs, abdomen and legs of the client/customer
  • Kneeling on both knees

    The therapist bends both knees while the buttocks are elevated in varying height depending on the need, good for stretching and applying pressure to the back and the limbs of the client
  • Sitting
    The therapist's buttocks are resting on their heels, similar to kneeling on both knees
  • Single thumb pressing

    Uses the ball of the thumb to apply pressure on deep tissues or muscles while the other hand is placed lightly on the client/customer's body for support
  • Double thumb pressing

    Uses both thumbs to apply pressure simultaneously, with the outer sides of the tips of both thumbs held together
  • Alternate thumb pressing

    Uses both thumbs to apply pressure alternately
  • Single palm pressing

    Uses the whole palm of the hand, with the fingers held together, to apply pressure
  • Double palm pressing

    Uses the palms of both hands to apply pressure
  • Palm over palm pressing

    Uses both hands (one hand on top of the other) to apply pressure
  • Stretching
    Using flexing and extending movements of the muscles and joints until the body's point of resistance
