• Non-utopian theory, focuses on preventing/reducing crime
• Broken window theory (Wilson)- visible signs of crime create an urban environment that encourages further crime
• Rational choice theory(clarke)- crime is a decision as its a balance between risk and gain.
• • (Murray)-Crime increases due to the breakdown of the community- focuses largely on the underclass who don't have a male parental figure so lack socialization from the dads side, therefore turning to crime
