creating an action potential

Cards (1)

  • o   Resting potential is when a neurone is not stimulated (-70V).
o   Action potential is the response of the postsynaptic neurone if ‘threshold’ is reached. This sends an electrical impulse down the axon of the neurone.
o   When a stimulus is present, positive ions move into the membrane to cause the neurone to depolarise (+40V) this passes on the electrical impulse along the neurone.
o   For an action potential to fire, it is required to reach the ‘threshold’.
