God as Love

• God is omnibenevolent - Most Christians put their trust in the loving nature of God despite the problem of Evil
• God's love is the basis of the relationship with Israel - Deuteronomy 7:9 'steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments'
• God's love is also shown through the suffering and death of Jesus - John 3:16 'For God so loved the world that he have his only son'
• The greatest gift of the spirit is love. If God is love, then love describes the relationship of the Trinity.
• God is love also requires love to be the basis of human relationships.
• Agape love - love from God that humans should show to others
• The belief that humans are made in God's image (Genesis) means that God's love must be reflected in the human capacity for agape
