Cards (10)

  • Erosion
Land is worn away by another material
  • Hydraulic action
Force of the water that hits the river bed and removes material
  • Abrasion
Sediment carried by the water hits the river channel and removes material in a sand paper effect
  • Attrition
Stones hit into eachother, making them smaller & smoother
  • Solution
Soluble materials dissolve in the water
  • Water Cycle (Hydrologic Cycle)
    Evaporation
Transpiration - sun heats up water from leaves
    Condensation
    Precipitation
Surface runoff - when water runs off the surface of the ground
Ground water flow - Water goes into the ground
Drainage basin - the water drains there and flows back into river
  • Traction
Rocks or big boulders roll Along the river bed because they are too heavy to be picked up by the river
  • Saltation
When small pebbles bounce along the river bed because they are lighter than rocks they do not need to be rolled
  • Suspension
small particles such as silts and clays are suspended in the flow of the water.
  • Solution
when minerals in rocks like chalk and limestone are dissolved in sea water and then carried in solution. The load is not visible.
