Tectonics

Cards (7)

  • Constructive plate margins move away from each other.
  • Destructive plate margins move towards each other. One is subducted.
  • Destructive plate margins cause composite volcanoes.
  • Conservative plate margins move past each other. Creates friction.
  • Convection currents
    1. The mantle is made of magma
    2. When magma is near the outer core it heats up and rises
    3. Magma near the crust cools down and sinks
    4. Creates convection current, circular movements that cause tectonic plates to move in the crust
  • Ridge push is when magma forms a ridge between two constructive plates, and pushes them away from each other.
  • Slab pull - oceanic plate pulled towards the mantle.
