    everyone loses a little bone density naturally after they reach 35, but no one knows why it happens to some people more quickly than others. it may be inherited or due to smoking, alcohol, being thin early menopause or long term steroid treatment.

    there are no symptoms until a bone breaks, either of own accord or after a fall. diagnosis is by bone scan or blood tests to rule out other things.
