why does transpiration happen

Cards (6)

  • transpiration is the evaporation of water from a plants surface especially the leaves
  • transpiration happens as a result of gas exchange
  • a plant needs to open its stomata to let carbon dioxide in so that it can produce glucose ( by photosynthesis)
  • when stomata does open it lets water out so then there's a higher water concentration inside the leaf then in the air so water moves the leaf and down the water potential gradient when stomata open
  • transpiration
  • water moves from areas of high water potential to areas of low water potential down a water potential gradient
