Endocrine system

• Various glands in the body produce hormones which are secreted into the blood stream.
• Adrenal gland = Adrenal medulla, adrenal cortex.

  ->Adrenal medulla = releases adrenalin and noradrenalin.

  ->Adrenal cortex = releases cortisol (increases glucose production.)
• Thyroid gland = Thyroxine (increases heart rate.)
• Pituitary gland = Controls the release of hormones in other glands.

  ->Controlled by the hypothamolos
• Pineal gland = melatonin (manages biological rhythms.)
• Testes = testosterone (development of male characteristics.)

  Ovaries = oestrogen (regulation of reproduction)
