    • Told they were taking part in visual perception
    • Tested individually to see effect of pressure from majority on conformity levels
    • One naive participant placed in group with 6-8 confederates
    • Shown standard line and asked to match it to 3 comparison lines, aloud, from choice of 3
    • Task was an obvious answer
  • Asch found that the confederates gave the wrong answer 12 times out of 18 critical trials
  • The naive participant gave the wrong answer 36.8% of the time
  • 75% of the naive participants conformed at least once
  • 25% of participants never conformed
  • Individuals are more likely to conform
