The
Haber
Process is used in the industrial production of
ammonia
Ammonia
is a pungeny smelling alkaline gas with the chemical formula
NH3
Nitrogen gas and hydrogen gas react to produce
ammonia.
This is a
reversible
reaction
The
ammonia
is collected by cooling the mixture so that ammonia
condenses
into a liquid
Raising the temperature increases the
reaction
, making
less
ammonia
a low temperature increases
yield
but the reaction is too
slow
A high pressure increases yield but the reaction is too
expensive
and can be dangerous
A
catalyst
increases the rate of
reaction
, but foes not increase yield
A compromise is reached
450*C, 200atm and an iron catalyst
