chemistry - haber process

Cards (9)

  • The Haber Process is used in the industrial production of ammonia
  • Ammonia is a pungeny smelling alkaline gas with the chemical formula NH3
  • Nitrogen gas and hydrogen gas react to produce ammonia. This is a reversible reaction
  • The ammonia is collected by cooling the mixture so that ammonia condenses into a liquid
  • Raising the temperature increases the reaction, making less ammonia
  • a low temperature increases yield but the reaction is too slow
  • A high pressure increases yield but the reaction is too expensive and can be dangerous
  • A catalyst increases the rate of reaction, but foes not increase yield
  • A compromise is reached
450*C, 200atm and an iron catalyst
