  • Consistency
    The way in which minority influence is more likely to occur if minority members share the same belief and retain it over time
  • Types of consistency
    • Synchronic consistency - when all members of the minority group say the same thing at a given point in time
    • Diachronic consistency - when members of the minority group say the same thing over a long period of time
  • Commitment
    When a minority shows that they are willing to give up something for their belief, the majority takes their argument more seriously, and as a result, may adopt it as their own
  • Augmentation principle
    Minority members engaging in extreme acts to draw attention to their views
  • Minority members engaging in consistent and committed behaviours
    Creates a snowball effect, eventually allowing the minority to become the majority
  • Flexibility
    When a minority exhibits their willingness to listen to other viewpoints, prompting the majority to listen to their point of view and potentially adopt it as their own
