  • Introduction:
1912, when ‘An Inspector Calls’ is set, was a time when social standing and your place in society was of upmost importance.
  • Priestly presents a class structure that is unfair where the upper class are arrogant and selfish and the working classes are victims of the system.
  • • As a Socialist, Priestley wanted to highlight the inequality that existed between the classes in 1912, but also wanted his 1945 audience to realise that despite the coming together of the classes during the Second World War the upper-classes still looked down upon the working-class in post-war Britain.
