• Episodic memory


  Holds the details of personal events and requires conscious recall for retrieval (explicit memory), recalled from the right prefrontal cortex
• Semantic memory


  Stores our knowledge of facts and meanings and also requires conscious recall (explicit memory), recalled from the left prefrontal cortex
• Procedural memory


  Stores actions, tasks, and skills and is retrieved unconsciously (implicit memory), recalled from the basal ganglia and cerebellum
