  • pastiche- another word for intertextuality,
  • bricolage- putting something together out of diff types of media,
  • diegesis- story telling- narrative like old town road,
  • diaspora- force people to move from homeland to other places- post colonial- slave trade, africans forced to move to america or other places such as europe.
  • maslows hierarchy of needs- we have to fulfill our base needs first,
  • moral panic- make society panic about a certain group
  • convergence- multiple platforms from multiple types of media come together, come together due to rise of tech, can access just from phone etc
  • byline- journalists name at the beginning of a story
  • inverted pyramid structure- newspaper stories starting with main event then giving more details and eyewitness comments in short paragraphs- paras at end of story are less important than those at beginning
  • splash- front page story
  • subheadings- smaller, typical one liner headlines for other stories
  • house style- what makes the mag recognisable to its readers every issue. the house style is established through the choice of colour, the layout and design, the font style, the content and the general look of the publication.
  • privelaged spectator position- where the audience is positioned in a superior position within the narrative, the audience is shown aspects of the narrative that other characters cannot see, eg 'a close up of a character taking a knife out of his pocket'
  • repertoire of elements- key features that distinguish one genre from another,
  • a red herring- a misleading piece of information which suggests a particular solution which is actually incorrect
  • satirise- newspapers sometimes criticise a public figure such as a politician or celebrity by mocking them and using humour
  • paywall- a system where readers pay a subscription fee to access website content.
