      • fishermen were warned not to go to sea
      • the Philippines declared a state of emergency which led to many charities offering aid in the form of food, shelter and clean water
      • constructed pit latrines for 100000 people to help prevent spread of disease
    • Long-term responses:
      • UN appealed for over $ 300000 million to help funding and relief
      • charities built new, shelter resistant homes
