Hakim

Cards (6)

  • Marxist Feminist Benston
    • Argues that Hakim's 'adaptive woman' is simply women who are seen as a cheap reserve army of labour brought in when necessary for the bourgeoisie, creating flexibility for capitalists
  • New Right
    • Argue that equality is not always a good thing as most women are now work-centred so children suffer because of neglect as the mothers prioritise their jobs. Women too suffer as they are overworking.
  • Hakim
    • As society is more equal, women have more of a choice regarding the family type they choose to settle into. Inequality stems from personal preference and women are able to choose what to do with their lives, for example, resuming education, working, taking care of their families.
  • Adaptive woman

Combine paid work and family life equally, often seeking flexible or part-time jobs
  • Home-centred woman
Focus their role on their family life and their children are prioritised over employment, often preferring not to work
  • Work-centred woman
Focus their role on their work life (minority of women)
