Types of forces

Cards (6)

  • Id the forces on an object are balanced, it will be stationary or travel at a constant speed
  • Resultant forces change the speed, direction and shape of objects
  • There are many different types of forces:
    normal force
    drag
    gravitational
    electrostatic
    weight
    tension
    magnetic
    thrust
    friction
  • Vectors have direction and magnitude. Forces are vectors because direction matters. They differ from scalar quantities because scalar quantities only have magnitude
  • Friction is a force that opposes motion
  • Forces have effects on objects, such as changing shape, direction or speed
