Body systems that can be tested to measure fitness

Cards (7)

  • What are body systems that can be used to measure fitness?
    -VO2 Max
    -Anaerobic threshold (% of VO2)
    -Anaerobic power
    -Strength (1RM)
    -Muscular endurance (15RM)
  • What is VO2 Max
It indicates cardiovascular fitness, an increased VO2 max indicates a high rate of absorption and use of oxygen.
  • What does high VO2 max indicate?
    A very efficient cardiovascular system
  • What is anaerobic threshold?
A continued high volume and intensity of endurance exercise is further likely to improve an athletes anaerobic threshold
  • What is anaerobic power?
This can be increased by sprint training or power training. This enhances anaerobic metabolic capacity of the muscles being trained, allowing an athlete to train and perform at higher intensities
  • What is strength (1RM)?
Strength training results in structural and functional adaptations to the body. The adaptations depend on the amount of training undertaken, but the strength would have increased in the muscle group in question. 1RM can be used to measure adaptations over time
  • What is muscular endurance (15RM)?
The level of adaptation can be measured in the ability of the muscle to contract repeatedly for 15 repetitions at a given weight
