      • behaviourist psychologist Watson believes all behaviour is conditioned and learnt from our environment via experiences

      • a dog associated a bell with food, bell(NS)+food(UCS) produced a response of salivation(UCR)
      • once these were repeatedly paired together, the bell became the CS producing a conditoned response of salivation, even when food(UCS) was not present

      • when rats pressed lever food was released, therefore rats were postively reinforced to press the lever in order to gain the positive stimulus so kept doing so.|
      • rats were also taught to avoid negative shocks via negative reinforcement
