    • Aim: to test the duration of the STM
    • Procedure: trigrams ( 3 letters )
    • Results: at 3 seconds 80% recalled, at 18 seconds, 10% recalled
    • duration is up to 30 seconds

    Aim: to see if similarity in words had an impact on recall
    • List A - similar words
    • List B - dissimilar words
    • List C - similar meaning
    • List D - dissimilar meaning
    List A and C had the lowest recall rate
  • Bahrick ( 1975 ) study:
    • Aim: test the duration of long term memory
    • Procedure: 392 American uni grads were shown high school year book photos and asked to match the photos
  • Bahrick ( 1975 ) study:
    • Results: 90% of participants could match the names after 14 years
    • 60% of participants could match the names after 47 years
  • Sperling (1960):
    • Aim: To test the capacity of the Sensory memory
    • Procedure: Participants were shown a 3 x 3 grid containing nine letters for half a second
    • Results: participants were able to recall 4 letters
