• the middle class are more likely to attend church but also less likely to believe in god and more likely to be atheists
• the working class is less likely to attend church but more likely to believe in God, they are also more likely to be in denominations
• survey in 2015 showed that 62% of regular church goers were middle class and 38% were working class
• church attendance is higher in rural areas and higher in the south of england compared to the north as well as being higher in areas with well achieving church schools
• people with higher IQs are more likely to be atheists - higher levels of education and class are correlated with higher IQ
• those suffering deprivation are more likely to turn to religion

• problems with identifying the relationship:

  there hasn't been enough research so we are often stuck relying on indicators that might not actually imply social class

  middle class could just be attending church for appearances or to get their children into good schools or they may just feel more pressure to state they are religious
