Tissues

Cards (5)

  • Epithelial tissue
    • Covering or lining tissue
    • Closely joined together
    • Vary in shape
    • Example: outer lining of skin, inner lining of heart, stomach, intestines
  • Connective tissue
    • Provides support and holds body parts together
    • Cells are separated by large amounts of non-cellular matrix
    • Example: bone, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, fat storage tissue, blood

  • Nervous tissue
    • Made up of specialised nerve cells called neurons
    • When neurons become stimulated, messages are carried along these projections to another part of the body
    • Examples: brain, spinal cord, nerves
  • Muscular tissue
    • Muscle fibres: long thin muscle cells
    • Respond to stimuli by contracting and shortening
    • Three types: skeletal muscle, smooth muscle, cardiac muscle
  • Tissues
    • A collection of cells with similar structure that together to perform a particular task
