Working in the Cartesian Plane

Cards (6)

  • If you want to find the midpoint of 2 numbers, add the numbers together and divide it by 2
  • To find the midpoint between 2 coordinates you :
    Add the x coordinates and divide by 2
    Add the y coordinates and divide by 2
  • Example:
    (-1,2) and (3,2) - Midpoint:
    x= -1+3 ÷2 = 1
    y= 2+2÷2= 2
    Final answer: (1,2)
  • When lines have a negative gradient they will slope from left to right or down
  • When lines have a positive gradient there lines go up- the steeper the line the higher the gradient
  • Gradient= rise÷run / change in x÷change in y
    Gradient= 6/3
    Gradient= -2
    It needs to be negative as the line will slope down from left to right
