Changes in Federal Policy

• K- 1964 President LBJ sign CRA into law, finishing what JFK started before death.
• K- CRA prohibited discrimination on basis of race and colour across the USA and put end to Jim Crow laws.
• A - Act applied at federal level forced people and states to end discrimination against Black Americans by law. VRA led to more black Americans registering and voting.
• A+ CRA had huge effect on the South but changed little in the North where there had been no official segregation. Law changed but would take decades to change racist attitudes and practices.
