Tonic-Clonic

• Tonic-Clonic (grand-mal)

  • Pt may be confused, aphasic (unable to speak), emotional, tired, HA
• Post seizure


  • Major muscles relax & nystagmus (involuntary, rhythmic eye movement), eyes may be looking at back of head
• Postical phase


  • Reset period of brain - can last several minutes to hours
  • Pt may be confused, aphasic (unable to speak), emotional, tired, HA
• Tonic Phase


  Systemic rigidity & apnea - last only a few seconds
• Clonic Phase

  • Intermittent contractions of arms, legs, head movement, biting, clenching teeth
  • Lasts 1-3 minutes
