AO3 Influence of early attachment

    Cards (5)

    • Some studies have issues of validity. For example, the love quiz uses self reporting like interviews and questionnaires. Participants may not be honest with their responses/ whether they have a realistic view of their own relationship
    • Retrospective data: looking back at one’s early relationship lacks validity because it relies on accurate recollections (Bailey et al.)
    • Studies such as the Love Quiz has low generalisability. The researcher conducted the study with an exclusively American population and could be ethnocentric.
    • Confounding variables: a environmental factor such as a child’s temperament might also affect the child’s attachment style and their ability to form relationships with others
    • DeterministicL the continuity hypothesis assumes that people who are insecurely attached as infants would have poor quality adult relationships suggesting that the outcome of relationships is fixed from a very early point and there is no ability to change them. This is not the case for many people
