validity

    Cards (9)

    • what is internal validity ?
extent to which results of the study are due to the tested variable rather than extraneous ones
    • what is external validity ?
the extent to which the results can be generalised to other people and settings
    • what are the 4 ways of improving validity ?
      face, concurrent, predictive, temporal
    • what is face validity ?

most basic assessment, do the tests test what it claims to
    • what is concurrent validity ?
uses already validated measures for the variables being tested and correlates the measure from one test with the measures using another
    • what is predictive validity ?

checks validt by assessing how well it predicts future behaviour e.g iq on school behaviour
    • what is temporal validity ?

compares results over time by retesting - if finding sr the same the tests is valid
    • how do you improve internal validity ?
employ tighter controls on extraneous variables and by ensuring high levels of reliability in the procedure and the measurement
    • how do you improve external validity ?
develop realistic tests and using natural setting for studies instead od artificial tests in highly controlled conditions
