Waves

Cards (9)

  • Waves transfer energy by oscillations.
  • They can be transverse or longitudinal.
  • In transverse waves oscillations are perpendicular to the direction of energy transfer.
  • In longitudinal waves oscillations are parallel to the direction of energy transfer.
  • When two peaks overlap their displacements are added together.
  • When two troughs overlap their displacements are subtracted.
  • The wavelength of a wave is the distance between two consecutive peaks or troughs.
  • The frequency of a wave is the number of complete waves per second measured in Hz.
  • The amplitude of a wave is its maximum displacement from the equilibrium position.
