distrubutions

Cards (7)

  • what are the 3 different distributions ?
    normal, positive skew, negative skew
  • what are normal distrubution key features?
the mean, median and mode will be at the same point, the data is symmetrical about the mean, shape of the line on the graph is bell shaped.
  • explain normal distributions ?
in a normally distributed population most measures will sit close to the mean with only a few of the population being at either end. this is marked by the standard deviation which is a measure of variation around the mean.
  • what are skewed distributions ?
non symmetrical because the scores are not distributed equally on either Side of the mean. They are common when only a few measures have been taken.
  • what is a positive skew ?
results that are mainly below the mean.meaning more scores are situated to the left of the graph
  • what is a negative skew ?

occurs when most scores fall above the mean and the peak of the chart is to the right
  • what are applications of normal distributions ?

the statistical definition of abnormality is characterised by the normal distribution.
