RP1 stationary waves on a string

• safety:

  • add a counterweight to the stand if it seems unstable to prevent it from falling over
• improvements:

  • use an oscilloscope to verify the signal generator's readings
  • leave the signal generator for 20 minutes to stabilise
• method:

  • set up apparatus, record m of mass on the string
  • adjust length of string to 1m using ruler
  • increase f until string oscillates at the first harmonic, record f
  • reduce l by 0.1m
  • adjust f until string oscillates at the first harmonic, record f
  • repeat until l is 0.5m
  • repeat everything twice, calculate a mean f for each value of l
