RP6 internal resistance + emf

• equipment:

  • battery
  • voltmeter
  • ammeter
  • variable resistor
  • switch
• method:

  • set up apparatus
  • with switch open, record V
  • set variable resistor to maximum
  • close switch, record V and I
  • open switch between readings
  • decrease R and repeat to get pairs of readings
• safety:

  • adding another resistor reduces the current which prevents high temperatures from high currents
• improvements:

  • keep switch open as much as possible to reduce temperature
  • use newest possible batteries as emf and r of old batteries can vary during the experiment
