  • nominal data = data that is not measured on a scale, such as age, gender, and income
  • ordinal data = data that can be ranked in order of magnitude, such as age, height, weight, and income
  • interval data = data that is measured in terms of a fixed interval, such as height or weight
  • operationalised = defined in terms of specific behaviour or events, rather than general concepts
