The endocrine system regulates the activity of cells and organs in the body. It instructs/communicates messages for glands to release chemicals directly into the bloodstream, which travel to the organs of the body.
GLANDS
organs in the body that synthesise substances such as hormones.
HORMONES
are chemical substances that circulate into the bloodstream and only affect target organs. Hormones are secreted when a gland is stimulated. They diffuse directly into the blood and are taken around the body by the circulatory system. Hormones will only bind to specific receptors for that hormone.
