    • Specific heat capacity practical
      1. place beaker on balance and press 0 then add substance and record
      2. remove off balance and add immersion heater and thermometer
      3. Record the starting temperature then insulate the beaker
      4. Connect joulemeter and power to the heater and time for 30mins
      5. Read total of joules passed
      6. Read final temeperature
      7. calculate SHC
    • Resistance practical
      • reason: see how length of wire affects resistance
      • independent: length of wire, position of crocodile clips
      • dependant - resistance of wire
      1. Set up circuit with a cell, closed switch, ammeter (and a voltmeter in parallel)
      2. Record current every 10cm by adjusting crocodile clip placement
      3. Calculate resistance using: voltage = current x resistance
    • characteristics practical
      1. Set up series circuit with variable resistor, fixed resistor, ammeter and cell (voltmeter in parallel)
      2. Use voltmeter to read potential difference and record
      3. Use ammeter to read current through resistor and record
      4. Adjust the variable resistor, repeat and record
      5. Switch direction of battery (to get negative results), repeat and record
      6. Repeat with a lamp and a diode
      7. record results
    • density of a regular object

      Weight object to get mass, calculate volume with a ruler and work out density
    • Density of an irregular object 

      Measure mass of object, fill eureka can to spout and place object in, catch displaced water with measuring cylinder
