  • What are the basic rights that someone has by law?
    1. Freedom of speech

  • Why are prisoners human rights sometimes abused?
    Some authoritarian states give police powers to force citizens to behave how they want them to.
    eg. 2019, US Department of States annual report included killing/ suspicious deaths for those in custody. As well as torture and forced disappearances.
  • How does the Due process model support human rights?
    They put obstacles in place in police investigations to ensure the rights of the defendant are met. This protects them from the state.
