catholic and other christian views on creation of universe
not all interpret the bible the same way so understand creation accounts differently, but all believe the people who wrote the biblical accounts were inspired by god, god makes himself known to people through the bible and the bible is the word of god and helps us live our lives
myths should not be interpreted literally as comes from different times and reflects attitudes of the society they originated from the accounts in genesis 1:1
what do fundamentalists believe about the creation accounts?
genesis accounts are historical accounts and that it actually happened therefore believing the universe was created in 6 days also known as creationists
what does genesis 1st book of the torah tell the 2 creation stories for jews
observant jews use shabbat as a complete day of rest as god rested on day 7, the second creation story describes Adam and Eve in garden of eden, some orthodox believe these accounts are the origin of the world as torah related to Moses and many orthodox and reform believe that god started the world through the Big Bang and guided life through evolution
scientists developed theories that contradict biblical accounts of creation, a challenge faced by religious believes was the earth is not the centre of the universe and the world is much older than people thought in the past
George lemaitre said galaxies far away suggest the universe is 15 billion year old and the entire universe was in a bubble (hotter and dense) which exploded so universe was born, time space and matter all began in a fraction of a second
doesn't have to be a choice between religion and science both perfectly possible, science can teach us the how the universe came into being but not why it is here
catholics accept theory of evolution but disagree with the idea that human aren't special. if stars, planets and animals evolved over time they were ultimately created by god
fundamentalists belief about big bang and evolution
see it as an attack on their belief as they interprt the scripture literally and believe the bible came directly from god and every word is historical true and accurate
- any scientific account of creation that conflicts with the genes account is considered wrong
against it as human life is sacred and life begins at conception, god who gave life and is the start of the babies rs w god, arbition is taking a life and therefore is evil and u should consider adoption
should be avoided at all costs, consider abrotion if rape, if you don't believe life begins at conception, free will, lesser of 2 evils eg if it presents suffering (methodist church)
some say only god can take a life and 10 com say thou shall not kill some say that refers to unborn babies, most say its not a person till its born, reform say arbotion only permitted for serious reasons eg life at risk
They believe in personal choice, prioritize quality of life in decision-making, encourage adoption, support legalizing abortion to prevent unsafe procedures, and advocate for easier access to contraception to reduce abortion rates.
morally acceptable to take the life of these 'no persons' if it will bring less suffering and greater happiness, treating animals less that humans is discriminatory in the same way as calling someone racist due to their colour, animals feel pleasure and pain so their interest should be taken into account
since god gave humans a soul they are and remain 'persons', agree they should look after animals but humans are still important as made imago die, humans have a special dignity to animals don't
