  • Corrosion is a chemical reaction when materials (mostly metal) are exposed to environments found in oxygen and water for long periods. It leads to the gradual deterioration of the material.
  • A combustion reaction is when a substance reacts with oxygen and releases energy through light and heat. The reaction always includes hydrocarbon (Cn+C2n+n)and oxygen as the reactants and always produces carbon dioxide and water as products.
  • Combustion typically requires three main components, otherwise known as the fire triangle. Fuel, heat and oxygen.
  • Incomplete combustion occurs when there isn't enough oxygen present during the combustion process. This means that some of the fuel doesn't completely burn up so more smoke and other polluting gases are produced. Incomplete combustion also happens if too much fuel is burned at once.
  • rust is iron oxide
  • acids release hydrogen ions (H+)
  • bases release hydroxide ions (OH-)
  • a catalyst is a substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction without being used up in the reaction
  • Precipitate is (s), which means it is a solid and INSOLUBLE
