The hypocrisy of bourgeoisie society: Although Torvald puts himself so far above Krogstad, in that he has committed a crime and Torvald hasn't, but it is implied that Torvald's business dealings with Nora's father weren't fully moral. It seems that Torvald 'got' Nora like a gift in exchange for keeping Nora's father's mistakes quiet ('if you hadn't been so kind and helpful to him'). Dr Rank also looks down on Krogstad: calling him a 'moral cripple', and 'morally twisted', yet he flirts with his best friend's wife, hardly moral ('what other wonders are to be revealed to me?')
