  Making DNA copies from mRNA (naturally occuring in viruses)

  • Select the cell producing the desired protein, which should have large amounts of mRNA
  • Primer added, reverse transcriptase joins DNA nucleotides with complementary bases
  • Single stranded DNA is made (cDNA)
  • DNA polymerase added to make double stranded DNA
• cDNA is intron free because it is based off the mRNA template
