  • Teenage Friendships
    • During the middle and late teen years, adolescents start establishing strong ties and bonds with their friends and peers. They spend more time with their circle of friends rather than with their family.
Friendships provide a safe venue with which teens feel secure to explore their identities, express themselves without inhibition, share problems and concerns, pursue thrills and adventures without fear, and simply "rule the world" in the company of their friends.
  • Peer Influence
    • Peer influence plays a significant role in middle and late adolescence. This may be a concern, particularly for parents, when they notice their teens increasingly becoming preoccupied with their friends.
Friends can be strong motivation to engage in sports, community, or may also be positive. Friends can also dissuade a person from indulging in unsafe and unhealthy behaviors.
With constant companionship and togetherness, teenage friendships may reach different levels and grow into best friends, cliques, or deep friendships.
