  • Major organ systems in animals
    • Digestive system
    • Nervous system
    • Excretory system
    • Reproductive System
    • Skeletal system
    • Transport/Circulatory system
    • Respiratory system
  • Digestive system
Concerned with the digestion and absorption of food. Digestion breaks down complex food substances into simple soluble molecules. Absorption allows the soluble food molecules to diffuse into the blood stream. Organs include the oesophagus, stomach, intestines (small and large), liver, pancreas and gall bladder.
  • Nervous system
Receives, transmits and interprets information. Organs are the brain and spinal cord.
  • Excretory system
Removes wastes from the body. Main organs are the kidneys and bladder.
  • Reproductive System

Involved in the production of offspring. Female reproductive system produces eggs, organs include ovaries, uterus and vagina. Male reproductive system produces sperm, organs include penis and testes.
  • Skeletal system
Involved in the support of the body, protection of organs and movement. Main organs are the bones.
  • Transport/Circulatory system
Transports important and needed substances to cells and transports wastes and toxic substances away from cells. Comprised of the heart and blood vessels (arteries, veins, and capillaries) working together. The heart is the major organ.
  • Respiratory system
Involved in breathing and the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide gases in humans. The lungs are the main organs.
