    TROPHOZOITE FORM 

    Size:
    = 8-15 um to 30 um long
    Shape:
    = May appear as ovoid, round, pyriform, or pear-like
    Nucleus:
    = 1 (ONE)
    Flagella:
    = 3-5 anterior flagella
    = 1 flagellum embedded in the undulating membrane
    (1/2 of body lenght)
    Other Feature:
    = Rapid Jerky Motility
    = Median Axostyle
  • CLINICAL MANIFESTATION:
    = Asymptomatic cases most frequently in males
    = Persistent urethritis / prostatitis
    = Persistent vaginitis
    + Degeneration and desquamation of the vaginal epithelium
    + Purulent secretions - " greenish" and/or "yellowish" in color
    + Itchiness and Burning sensation
    + "Strawberry Cervix"
    = Infant infections - During Childbirth

    = Ping-Pong Disease
    = Optimal pH: 5-6 pH

    = Metronidazole, Tinidazole
