The Beatitudes

• Beatitude comes from the Latin word 'Beatitudo' meaning 'blessed' or 'happy'
• They reflect the portrait of the perfect Christian disciple
• 8 Beatitudes which Jesus said would bring eschatological goodness
• "Blessed are those who are poor in spirit, for theirs in the kingdom of heaven"

  • Being humble enough to know you need God in your life
  • Those with less money are often more open to God
  • those who are wealthy put their trust in possessions not God
  • Being poor in spirit means always making God an important part in your life

  • By placing trust in god, he will bring them comfort

  • as christians we should speak against sectarianism, race and injustice

  • receive mercy when we show mercy
• "Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see god"

  • good in our hearts and minds as well as outward actions
  • shouldn't feel anger, hatred, lust, greed or jealousy
• "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God"

  • christians who never deliberately cause trouble or arguments
  • avoid conflict and resolve disputes
