  Detects and reacts to stimuli
• what are receptors

  cells that detect stimuli

  they can form part of larger complex organisms e.g. the retina of the eye is covered in light receptor cells
• what are effectors

  muscles and glands which respond to nervous impulses
• what do effectors do

  respond to nervous impulses and bring about a change
• what are sensory neurones

  Neurones that carry information as electrical impulses from the receptors to the CNS
• what are motor neurones

  neurones that carry electrical impulses from the CNS to effectors
• what does the CNS do

  receives information from the receptors then coordinates a response . the response is then carried out by the effectors
