Turning effect of forces

• Moment= force × distance
• The moment of a force is the turning effect of a force on an object
• Stability is the ability of a body to restore its original position when it is tilted through an angle
• Centre of mass of a body is a point inside the body where it's whole mass acts
• Centre of gravity is also known as the centre of mass
• Stable equilibrium is when the body return to its original position when a small external force is applied tilted
• Unstable equilibrium is when the body does not return to its original position when it's tilted by a force
• Neutral equilibrium is when the body remains in its original position
• • A body is more stable when the centre of gravity is closer to the base

  • Line of action of the force passes through its base
• Momentum= mass × velocity
• Total momentum before collision= total momentum after collision
• Impulse is the force × time of contsct
