  • Natural Resources
Use of nature to address our day-to-day life needs
  • Renewable Energies
    • Solar
    • Wind
    • Hydro
    • Tidal
    • Geothermal
    • Biomass
  • Solar
    • Abundant/free
  • Wind
    • Windfarms, energy from winds
  • Hydro
    • One of the most commercially developed
    • Building a dam or barrier creates a controlled flow of water that drives a turbine, generating electricity
    • Total untapped hydropower resource potential of the country is estimated at 13,097 MW, of which 85% are considered large and small hydros (11,223 MW)
  • Tidal
    • Another form of hydro energy that uses twice-daily tidal currents to drive turbine generators
    • Tidal flow, unlike some other hydro energy sources, isn't constant but is highly predictable and can therefore compensate for the periods when the tide current is low
  • Geothermal
    • Harnessing the natural heat below the earth's surface, geothermal energy can be used to heat homes directly or to generate electricity
    • Popular in Iceland
  • Biomass
    • Conversion of solid fuel made from plant materials into electricity
    • Involves burning organic materials to produce electricity, but is now a much cleaner, more energy-efficient process
    • Converting agricultural, industrial and domestic waste into solid, liquid and gas fuel, biomass generates power at a much lower economic and environmental cost
    • San Carlos Biomass Power Plant is a 19.99MW biopower project located in Negros Oriental
  • Non-Renewable Energy
Sources that will run out or will not be replenished in our lifetimes
  • Clean & Green Program
    • Aims to protect and care for the environment by engaging the community in leading an environmentally conscious lifestyle
    • Currently administered by the National Environment Agency
  • Republic Act No. 10176, Arbor Day Act of 2012, Section 8 "All able-bodied citizens of the Philippines, who are at least twelve (12) years of age, shall be required to plant one (1) tree every year."
  • REPUBLIC ACT No. 3571 prohibits the cutting, destroying or injuring of planted or growing trees, flowering plants and shrubs or plants of scenic value along public roads, in plazas, parks, school premises or in any other public ground, with violators punished by prison correctional in its minimum period to prison mayor in its minimum period.
  • PRESIDENTIAL DECREE No. 1153 requires the planting of one tree every month for five consecutive years by every citizen of the Philippines.
  • House Bill 8728, or the "Graduation Legacy for the Environment Act, provides that all graduating elementary, high school, and college students to plant at least 10 trees each before they can graduate.
  • Other Doables or Short Cuts
    • Plant fruit trees and ensure it grows into a mature tree, at least 1 tree per year
    • Apply reduce, reuse, recycle, repair, regenerate, refill, refuse, repurpose
    • Shop less
    • Buy local
    • Use organic
    • Walk, bike, jog, or run
    • Limit "made in China"
    • Avoid "luxury" brands as much as possible
    • Apply #wastegardening
    • Plant, plant, plant
